Not supposed to be an accurate representation of the American welding industry in general, but rather the imagery I made of it in my mind. This over the top caricaturization of the Americana/West Texas type of rig welding/pipeliner lifestyle was overly inspred by the consumption of instagram reels, songs and movies.

"Laying Dimes" refers to the way the welder lays down a bead of weld, which is often described as looking like a row of dimes. "Making Dollars" refers to the stacking up of those dimes, and the living it allows. The zine is a tongue-in-cheek take on the trade-off from this lifestyle (money against health), and the (often toxic) sub-culture that surrounds it.

I do not own the rights to the images used in this zine, and I do not intend to make any money off of it. It is a personal project that I made for fun and to practice my design skills. Fanzine - 2024

Ce projet n'a pas vocation à représenter fidèlement l'industrie américaine de la soudure en général, mais plutôt l'image que je m'en suis construite mentalement. Cette caricature volontairement excessive du mode de vie associé au soudage sur chantier et au métier de tuyauteur, dans une esthétique Americana / Ouest du Texas, a été largement nourrie par la consommation de reels Instagram, de chansons et de films.

« Laying Dimes » désigne la manière dont le soudeur dépose un cordon de soudure, souvent comparé à une rangée de pièces de dix cents. « Making Dollars » renvoie à l'accumulation de ces pièces et au train de vie qu'elles permettent. Le zine propose avec ironie une réflexion sur le compromis de ce mode de vie, entre argent et santé, ainsi que sur la sous-culture, souvent toxique, qui l'entoure.

Je ne possède pas les droits sur les images utilisées dans ce zine et je n'ai pas l'intention d'en tirer de l'argent. Il s'agit d'un projet personnel réalisé pour le plaisir et pour m'exercer au design.
